Segmentácia trhu v cirkevnej hudbe ako dôsledok separácie sakrálneho a profánneho prostredia

The process of separation of sacral and profane music in the Czech Republic and Slovakia was different from other countries because of the Communist system, which promoted atheism in the years 1948 through 1989. New religious media, concerts and festivals, publishers and agencies with a focus on the sacral music began to shape their activities after 1989. Nevertheless, during the totalitarian regime, about 40 albums were secretly issued, recorded in the illegal studios, which later represented marketing potential for a developed market after 1989. A gospel music band Radostné srdce (Joyful Heart) proves success of samizdat: the CD Vianočné koledy (Christmas Carols), issued in 1990, immediately after the revolution, sold 90 000 copies. Although the sacral and profane scene has an independent music industry, the only single identifier, which separates the sacral music from the profane music is the lyrics, the expression and the social function of music. All other styles and genres used in the current Christian music (gospel music) are consistent with the profane scene. About 240 albums of the Slovak contemporary Christian music were issued during the period 1989 – 2009.

Manažérske pozadie šanzónovej hudby na Slovensku

Management of chanson represents an entirely different type of organization of music culture than is usual in other genres, since chanson is part of minor genres in Slovakia (minor genre is a Central European term; it refers to a quantitatively small group of listeners). We focus on its position among other genres in Slovakia and society, the current situation, the importance and status of chanson artists in society. We answer fundamental questions of music management such as protection of music rights, issues related to personal manager, medialization and form of presentation. The eminent personalities of this genre in Slovakia are: Hana Hegerová, Milka Došeková, Zoro Laurinc, Alena Čermáková, Szidi Tobias, Igor Šebo, Alena Zimanyová, Monika Stanislavová, Edita Moravská and others. Reception of chanson in Slovakia is then confronted with its current status in the Czech Republic. We refer to the practical relevance of these artists at home and abroad.

Šláger, evergreen, hit

Smash hit, evergreen, hit are terms that were used for popular songs in practice, while music theory employed the term nonartificial music and its subgenres. In German-speaking countries the terms U – Musik (Unterhaltungsmusik) Gebrauchsmusik, Alltagsmusik and popular music, Trivialmusik, Umgangsmusik with Darbietungsmusik were used. Our analysis of hits is focused on the period 1955 – 1977 in the Slovak pop music. Hits are determined by external and internal factors. We are trying to detect these factors and determine what causes the transformation of songs into hits by analyzing the following factors: marketing, rotation number of a track in the media, prime time positioning, artist image, the quality of music, catching chorus, up-to-date style and so on. We are investigating the influence of record labels on promotion and advertising of a hit and the way a song is spread through the media. The historical overview of popular music in Slovakia is used to analyze and compare evergreens in the Slovak pop music which have endured in the various cover versions. World music – produkt hudobného priemyslu, či svojbytný hudobný smer?

World music, since its wider penetration into the music industry (1980‘s), has been developing in several directions. World renowned universities offer world music study programmes, which are centered around ethnomusicological disciplines with a practical performing class focused on traditional folk music from all over the world. Music publishers, periodicals and radio stations understand this phenomenon, either as a modern syncretic music style, which enriches the original material by other ethnic styles of nonartificial music, or as a current way of expression of musical traditions. The resulting patchwork of the music production that is included in the world music category, however, always involves a few groups with characteristic features that are geared towards self-sufficiency regardless of the final commercial success. Therefore, it can be concluded that the world music represents an exceedingly attractive article. It ensures a commercial profit as an independent music style with a clear ideology – an innovation of a musical tradition.
