Research in the Field of Music Therapy with Special Emphasis on Children with Disabilities, Especially Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract:

This study tries to document research on this type of expressive therapy provided to children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). It provides information about recent publications and assesses the state of the art directly in scientific research focusing on various aspects, from meta-analyses through music therapeutic improvisation or speech development up to the utilization of music therapy in medicine. The author tries to provide a perspective on the issue, without a complete overview of this complex topic. In the further course of the study, she deals in detail with music therapy provided to children with ASD, since there are extensive research results in this field. The aim of the published text is to provide the reader with a sample of inspiring studies that came into being after 2000 as outcomes of research on music therapy.
